Cecil Sharp Centenary Celebration! May 24th

On Friday May 24th 7.30pm at Theale Village Hall

Coming up in the Summer is the centenary of Cecil Sharp who died in 1924.

Sharp was great collector of Traditional English music and song and dance particularly in Somerset. He collected and wrote down over 1500 items.

His work had a profound influence not only only on the English folk revival but on English classical music.

Theale Folk Club are putting on a special concert in celebration, featuring singers and musicians performing dance tunes, ballads and sea shanties collected here in Somerset from ordinary working people in the early 20th century. Proceeds from the evening will go towards the Theale Village Hall Renovation Fund
